For the upcoming conventions, The Washington Post will be sending 38 staffers to Denver (DNC) and 40 to St. Paul (RNC), according to a memo listing travel accommodations obtained by Politico.
Last week, Forbes reported on convention staffing for major news organizations, and the Post did not to respond to requests for comment on numbers.Other outlets were listed as follows: USA Today (34), Dow Jones (23), and the LA Times (15).
Bill Hamilton, assistant managing editor for politics, did not respond to phone and e-mail requests from Politico seeking comment. A Post spokesperson said she did not have the staffing information available.
Marcus Brauchli, who officially takes over as executive editor on Sept. 8, will get to know his new colleagues in Denver. Brauchli will be staying with 24 of them in a hotel about 10 miles from the convention center.
Meanwhile, publisher Katharine Weymouth, (soon-to-be-former) executive editor Len Downie, and managing editor Phil Bennett will be residing in a swankier boutique hotel, just a stone’s throw from the Democratic convention space.
But when the Post’s convention team heads north for the Republican convention, they’ll all be together at the same hotel, nearby the Mall of America.
