Obama seeks national security high ground

A day after McCain told the VFW convention that, by way of his not acknowleding the surge success, Obama wanted to "choose the path of retreat and failure for America over the path of success and victory," the Democratic nominee sought the high ground.

"I have never suggested that Senator McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition," Obama noted.  "I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America’s national interest. Now, it’s time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same."

Of course, McCain will never do so.   But, as I noted yesterday, in his VFW speech McCain actually declined to deliver the line that Obama is surely referring to today and which has drawn much notice: that he "would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign."
