Preparing for Vanity Fair-Google

August 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Besides that whole Obama speech going on tonight, there’s another event likely to be as tough to get into — Vanity Fair and Google’s huge end-of-convention bash. Indeed, the line to simply pick up tickets for tonight took about an hour.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the ticket line began to snake around the second floor of Denver’s Ritz-Carlton like a ride at Disneyland. That was until security brought about a hundred more people on line out to the hotel’s patio to be corralled. Security then brought a handful at a time inside to get on the first line.

Even bold faced media types were stuck, including the NY Times David Brooks and Portfolio’s Matt Cooper (who despite working at a Conde Nast title couldn’t skip ahead). Marcus Brauchli, soon-to-be Washington Post editor was on hand, but seemed to just be socializing.

Rumor is that roughly 9,000 people RSVP’d for the event, although its unknown how many received the second confirmation e-mail to actually get a ticket. And for party crashers: sneaking in will be difficult since the tickets include hologram with a specific number that matches your name. But good luck!
